Plane crash near Mt. Pleasant leaves one dead, three others injured

A July 3rd plane crash just north of Mt. Pleasant has left one man dead and three others injured.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety investigators, Jere Kellough, 59, was a passenger in the single-engine aircraft when it went down late that night. He was taken by emergency medical helicopter to UT Medical Center in Tyler, but succumbed to his injuries.

The accident happened between County Road 4550 and County Road 4530, near the Mt. Pleasant airport. On board were two husband-and-wife couples who were returning from a day trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. According to reports, the Tail Number N1303X airplane was operated by Jon Anderson, 50, of Mt. Pleasant. Anderson was also airlifted to the same hospital with incapacitating injuries. Tracy Kellough, 54, was also airlifted to the same hospital with incapacitating injuries, while Tanya Anderson, 49, was taken to Titus Regional Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, the plane – traveling in clear weather conditions – was approaching the runway when it clipped a tree and crashed.

The investigation is being led by the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB).
