Paris Police responded to a burglary of a business in the 1200 block of SW 19th St at  7:55 A.M. on July 1, 2022. It was reported that someone had cut the chain-link fence to gain access to the building. Once inside, the unknown suspect(s) stole numerous tools and welding leads. The investigation continues. 

Paris Police responded to a theft in the 2100 block of NE Loop 286 at 10:25 A.M. on  July 1, 2022. The reporting person told officers that someone had cut the fence that surrounded the property and stole a John Deere Zero Turn Lawn Mower. The mower was stored on the property due to it needing to be repaired. The incident is under investigation. 

Paris Police responded to a burglary of a residence in the 200 block of S Collegiate  Dr at 6:25 P.M. on July 1, 2022. The victim reported that they had their garage door open when a neighbor reported to them that they (the neighbor) had observed 2 juveniles enter the garage and steal a bicycle. The suspects were last seen westbound on Hubbard St. The incident is under investigation. 

At 6:54 P.M. on July 1, 2022, Paris Police responded to an aggravated assault and met with the victim at PRMC ER. The 19-year-old victim reported that her 21-year-old boyfriend had assaulted her with a board during an argument. The officer observed a  laceration to her head. The investigation continues. 

Paris Police arrested Gerald Lynn Cooper, 59, of Paris, at his residence at 8:50 A.M.  on July 3, 2022, on a parole violation warrant. Cooper was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant out of Lamar County charging him with burglary of a building.  Cooper was booked and later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.

Joseph Lewis, 52, of Paris, was arrested at 3:29 P.M. on July 3, 2022, at his residence on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The warrant stemmed from an April 13th incident where it was reported that Lewis assaulted a female by hitting her in the head with the blunt end of a large knife. Lewis was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.

Paris Police stopped a vehicle in the 1700 block of Pine Bluff St at 7:28 P.M. on July  3, 2022, for an expired registration violation. The driver, 38-year-old Cassidy Lynn Lahman,  of Paris, was found to have outstanding Municipal Court warrants. During an inventory of the vehicle, Officers located over 17 grams of methamphetamine, and pills that she did not have a prescription to possess. She was additionally charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance of over 4 grams and possession of a dangerous drug. Lahman was booked into the city jail and is awaiting to be transferred to the Lamar County Jail.

Paris Police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 3600 block of SW Loop  286 at 9:24 P.M. on July 3, 2022. A small silver vehicle driven by a 31-year-old male from Paris, had crossed the center lane and had collided nearly head-on into a semi-truck tractor. Witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle had exited the vehicle before the officers arrived and had thrown narcotics and a pistol into the grassy bar ditch. Officers located more than 4 grams of methamphetamine and a 9mm pistol. The driver of the silver vehicle was transported to PRMC for treatment. The driver was also found to be intoxicated. The incident is under investigation and no arrest has been made at this time. 

Paris Police attempted to stop a vehicle in the 200 block of NE 12th St at 1:04 A.M. on  July 4, 2022, for a fail to display a signal violation. The vehicle fled from the officer and after a short chase, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot in the 1200 block of E Houston St. The driver, 43-year-old Deirk John Clark, of Paris, exited the vehicle and ran from the officer.  During the foot pursuit, Clark was observed throwing something over a fence. Clark was apprehended in the 10 block of SE 12th St. A front passenger also fled from the vehicle and was stopped and detained in the 1200 block of Lamar Ave. He was identified as 63-year-old Charles Wayne Canida, of Powderly, Texas.

A third passenger in the vehicle did not run from the vehicle but did drive off in the vehicle while the officers pursued the two that ran.  The vehicle was located and fled from officers in the 1500 block of Clarksville St. It was stopped in the 1800 block of Clarksville St and the owner of the vehicle, 56-year-old Joe Bob Clayton, of Paris, was arrested. The item that was thrown over the fence was found to be over 8 grams of methamphetamine. Officers located prescription pills inside the vehicle. Clark was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance of more than 4  grams but less than 200 grams, possession of a controlled substance of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams, tampering with physical evidence, evading arrest with a vehicle, and evading arrest with a previous conviction. He was also found to have an outstanding parole violation warrant. Clayton was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a  controlled substance of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams, evading arrest with a  vehicle, possession of a controlled substance of less than 1 gram, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Canida was charged with evading arrest with a previous conviction,  possession of a controlled substance of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams. He also had an outstanding parole violation warrant. All three were later placed in the Lamar  County Jail.

At 2:47 P.M. on July 4, 2022, Paris Police responded to an aggravated assault that had occurred in the 100 block of NW 7th St. and met with the victim at an emergency room.  The victim reported that an unknown female had cut her with a box knife while she was sitting on a parking lot. The victim reported that the unknown female suspect had flagged her down and demanded that the victim give up her vehicle keys. When the victim did not give the female suspect the keys, the female suspect produced a box knife and assaulted the victim. The victim had non-life-threatening injuries to her arm. The incident is under investigation. 

Paris Police responded to 327 calls for service and arrested 17 persons over the holiday weekend ending at midnight on July 4, 2022.
