A newly remodeled thrift store benefitting the Horizon House Transitional Shelter has opened its doors: Horizon House Thrift Store.
According to Executive Director Shelly Braziel, the idea behind remodeling was to create an environment that was clean, well-organized, and inviting.
“We wanted to offer garage-sale prices with a boutique vibe,” Braziel added.
It’s not your ordinary thrift store, however. All the proceeds from the store benefit the transitional shelter, which works to help house men, women, and families with children in need.
“You not only get what you need, but you’re also supporting a worthy cause,” Braziel said. “Whether you’re just looking for a good deal or to support the shelter – or both – we appreciate you.”
The transitional shelter was put in place to help shelter all individuals who are currently or imminently experiencing homelessness. Braziel said those wanting to stay in the shelter may be screened for eligibility.
“Even if someone is ineligible for admission, we will still assist them through our support services or by a referral,” she added. “The residents here are hard workers. In fact, they volunteered countless hours helping us get this thrift store open because they knew the store would help someone that had been through the things they have.”
The store carries clothes, shoes, accessories, baby items, bedding, household items, and more. You can find it at 400 4th Street S.W. in Paris. For more information, email horizonhouseparis@gmail.com.
