Paris City Council unanimously approved a reduction in trash pick-up days due to a labor shortage problem. Trash will now be picked up once a week – down from twice a week previously.
According to City Manager Grayson Path, the city has struggled for more than a year and has had to pull workers from other departments to man the trash trucks. Path went on to explain that of the 59 new hires last year, 56 have quit.
The reduction of pick-up days will offer two routes per day Monday through Thursday, with bulk pick-up scheduled on Fridays.
Path said the change will allow employees from other Public Works departments to go back to their normal duties.
