Police investigate after man hits dog in head with hammer

Police are investigating after a man allegedly hit a pit bull in the head with a hammer on Monday.

Around 5:30 p.m., Paris police officers responded to the animal cruelty call in the 2200 block of W. Cherry Street.

“Officers spoke with witnesses who advised that a white male had hit a brown pit bull dog in the head with a hammer,” said Officer Curtis Garrett.

Garrett said officers were able to locate the dog and found the dog had blood on its head and nose.

“Officers were not able to locate the suspect, but did confiscate the dog and placed it in the animal shelter,” Garrett added.

The investigation continues.
