Deadline draws near for Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship

The deadline for the Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship is drawing near. The deadline has been set for May 2, 2022.

APPLICATION INFORMATION: The Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to any Lamar county resident who is planning to further their education in the fire service. The $2500 scholarship will be awarded each year to the person chosen by a review board based on public service and a 500-word submitted essay.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Plans to attend Fire Academy fall of 2022

• Resident of Lamar County

Please submit this completed application along with a 500 or less word essay to the address listed above. The topic of the essay is “Public Service.” Applicants should address in their essay what public service means to them, and their plans to use a career in public service to improve their community. Applicants are also encouraged to submit documentation outlining prior public service.

The winner of the scholarship will receive a $2500 dollar scholarship toward a State of Texas fire certification.
