Bastrop
GOOD. Water clear; 68 degrees. There are some fish still on beds with the full moon coming this week but a lot are done and feeding up. Best bet is to run the grass lines in pockets and work the edges of those, either front side or back side where the grass starts from the sand. A lot of the bites are coming just in the grass from the sandy areas. Use 4-5 inch worms in those areas. A shallow crankbait will get the bite as well. There are some fish deeper as well and you can catch those around humps using Carolina rigged small worms and creature baits as well as small straight tail swimbaits on small ball head jigs, Ned rigs and shaky heads. If you want to catch bed fish, work the reeds in as deep of water as possible. Report provided by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs Bass Fishing Guide Service.
Belton
GOOD. Water lightly stained; 67 degrees; 3.70 feet low. Lake Belton white bass fishing is off the charts right now, and should continue to be excellent through late May. As fish metabolism rises with water temperature, the fish are feeding even under non-ideal weather conditions. A reliable shallow water bite is taking place each morning, fueled by spawning threadfin shad, then fish are transitioning out to deeper water as the skies brighten. For the first time since the spring warmup, the MAL Heavy Lure used vertically is now out-producing slabs. Report by Bob Maindelle, Holding the Line Guide Service.

Largemouth bass are heading toward their spawn. Check out points at the entrances to big coves. Craw colored crankbaits and craw soft plastics have been producing well. Crappie have certainly moved shallow, especially in the north end. Try dipping some minnows around the shallow cover between docks. The spawn will continue moving south as it gets warmer. Easy limits are being caught on slab spoons and swimbaits in 6-22 feet of water, and watch your sonar for big schools of fish. Eater sized blue catfish bite is at its peak right now. These fish are feeding on white bass eggs and other larvae blown into shallow structures, such as willows, rocks and other points. Bait of choice right now is fresh cut shad. Channel catfish bite is much better now. With main lake temps in the 60s, these fish have really become active and prepared baits such as cheese punch bait are working best in 3-22 feet of water. Crappie continue to spawn and shallow stumps and docks are putting fish in the boat, or bank. Jigs or minnows are working equally as good under a bobber. Largemouth are still very reliable in rocks and the new grass growing in the backs of coves. Shallow crankbaits, deep cranks and even top waters are working right now. Report by Captain Michael Littlejohn, Lake Tawakoni Guide Service.

Toledo Bend
GOOD. Water stained; 64 degrees; 1.03 feet low. The water level is 171.1 with no generators running. The main lake is clear and 64 degrees, and the back feeder creeks are stained. The lake has come up a foot this week and the water is up in the buck brush and the freshly mowed yards. The bass will be feeding in the new vegetation along the banks where insects and bugs have washed into the lake. Use topwater imitations like popping frogs, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, wacky worms, lizards, and don’t forget them swim jigs and BIG swimbaits. Crappie are disappearing from the shallows and are heading back to the deeper water and brush piles. The shad are starting to spawn along the shores and wood structures, and the catfish spawn should not be far behind. The catfish are biting in 2-4 feet of water from first light to 8:30 a.m. using a slip cork rig with shrimp, live or frozen shad, chicken livers and Captain’s garlic (chicken flavored) weenies. The bluegill are beginning to move up shallow as the water warms to start building their beds for their first spawn. The air is starting to warm at night and summer is coming, so get the family and go fishing for those good times and wonderful memories! Remember to always keep your life jack on while on the water because the water is still cold, and hypothermia is dangerous. Captain’s tip, be aware, the deeper the water the bigger the swells. Don’t take a chance crossing any lake when high winds are forecasted. Play it safe on the water, always inform your loved ones or a friend of your expected return time to port or home. Good luck and tight lines! Report from Captain Steve (Scooby) Stubbe, Mudfish Adventures LLC, Mudfish Rod Shop, Kayak and Fishing Guide Service.
