A nearly three-hour-long standoff ended Wednesday after the fugitive surrendered.
Around 2:30 p.m., Paris police responded to a warrant arrest in the 500 block of 2nd Street N.E. According to Curtis Garrett of the Paris Police Department, officers made contact with the wanted person, 33-year-old Chadwick Durial Woodberry.
“While attempting to arrest Woodberry, Woodberry assaulted one officer by striking the officer on the head with an unknown object,” Garrett explained.
Garrett said a struggle ensued, and Woodberry attempted to take the officer’s service weapon.
“The officer was able to retreat from the residence,” Garrett added.
Woodberry then barricaded himself in the house. After a three-hour standoff, Woodberry surrendered. He was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, attempting to take a weapon from an officer, and the original felony probation violation warrant for five counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
