- Toledo Bend
- FAIR. Water stained; 57 degrees; 2.22 feet low. The water level is 169.6 with two generators running from noon to 8 P.M. Water temperature in the main lake is 57 degrees and 50 degrees further in the creeks. Toledo Bend is expecting 3-5 inches of rain this week per the National Weather Service. Bass will be scattering from spawning flats to the closest drains and ditches. After a rainfall, go back in the creeks and find the clearest and shallowest water you can as the bass will be feeding up in the new vegetation along the banks where insects and bugs have washed into the lake. Use topwater imitations like popping frogs, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, wacky worms, lizards and don’t forget swim jigs and BIG swimbaits. You might be surprised by what you catch. When the generators run water will be pulled from the feeder creeks to the main lake, big balls of shad are showing up on the boat’s electronics heading to the back of the creeks. Bingo, it’s Springtime, bass and crappie will follow the shad. Crappie are holding in 12-20 feet of water during the day in the creek channels and some schools are moving shallow in the evenings. As the water warms, crappie are in 2-5 feet of water biting on live minnows under a slip cork rig or plastics in monkey milk, bluegrass blue and chartreuse. Fly fishers are casting a white/red collar fly jig and a white/chartreuse Clouser minnow. Catfish are still holding in 2-4 feet of water early in the mornings at the base of Cypress trees mid lake. Catfish are biting on a slip cork rig in 2-3 feet of water from first light to 8:30 A.M. using shrimp, chicken livers and Captain’s garlic weenies. The air is crisp, and the campfires are warm so get the family and go fishing for those good times and memories! Remember to always keep your life jack on while on the water, as the water is cold, and hypothermia is dangerous. Good luck and tight lines! Report by Blake Stritz, Fellowship Fishing Guide Service. Striped bass are good in 20-60 feet of water using soft plastics with a heavy weight to help sink it lower seems to do the trick while slow trolling at 1-1.8 mph in the main river channel. Fish are scattered throughout the reservoir from the dam all the way to the river. These fish are holding deep so deadsticking with white or chartreuse will work as well along with slabs. Look for fish suspended off the bottom as those are the ones that are feeding more actively. Report provided by Kraig Sexton, Sexton’s Guide Service LLC.
