Dee Ann Gorham || Obituary

Quite surprisingly, our dearest Dee Ann Gorham has died. On Thursday, March 10, 2022, surrounded by funny ole friends, overlooking her treasured backyard, and resisting the toll of liver failure, she left this earth to be fully with God. Dee Ann was genuinely joyful, brilliant, intensely disciplined, virtuoso, keenly observant, serious, playful, and deeply loyal. A serious musician, and an exacting teacher, she served on the faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce for 38 years and as Music Director at Kavanaugh Methodist Church for almost as long. She served as the organist at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sulphur Springs in retirement. From private lessons to a sought-after clinician to serving as accompanist for symphonies and the Texas Music Educators Association, Dee Ann was always working and profoundly contributing to the musical arts in Texas. She was an accompanist in life and music, breathing with the performer, anticipating need, and remaining fiercely focused on the exact support required. She adeptly and happily provided that support to the musician, the birds, the flowers, family, and friends. She was so fully present, as she made certain every movement was in support of the other person. And joyfully did so.
She is predeceased by her brother, noted psychologist, Dr. Don Logan, her remarkably skillful sister, organist of 1st Baptist Church of Austin TX, Susan York, and her dearly loved parents, Annell and Vernon Logan, who, through their children’s care, lived well into their 90’s.
Dee Ann is survived by dear neighbors, beloved students, remarkable musicians, and her dedicated cats. Most importantly, she leaves incredible memories for her much-loved nephew and niece, Scott York and Laurie York, her grandnephew Logan Buican and great-nephew Aaron Samuel Buican. A testament to her capacity, her dearest friends became family, and her dear family became great friends. And aren’t we the fortunate ones? Thanks be to God for the life and love of Dee Ann Logan Gorham.
A service of remembrance and celebration of her life and our lives with her will be held at 2 pm, April 2, 2022, at Kavanaugh Methodist Church in Greenville, TX, with an hors d’oeuvres reception in the Fellowship Hall for a lifetime of friends. Former students and colleagues are encouraged to participate in an alumni choir, gathering just before noon for rehearsal in the church’s choir room. Services will be led by her dear friend, Rev. Dr. Larry George, retired district superintendent, director of missional outreach, and assistant to the Bishop for the United Methodist Church. To emulate her own, donations to the Choral Music Programs at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Kavanagh Methodist Church, or to the care of animals would delight her soul.
