This year’s annual Jenny Burton-Rushin Memorial Foundation BBQ Cookoff is set for May 7, 2022. Gates will open at 10 a.m. and food will be served at noon at the Lamar County Fairgrounds.
“This event will continue to benefit local high school students with scholarships,” officials said.
Team entry fees are $50 and each team must supply 40 pounds of meat. Each team will register in either ribs, chicken, pulled pork, or brisket to compete for the grand championship. In addition, teams can compete for a jackpot prize and enter the beans and dessert categories. Each jackpot is $20 to enter. Teams are encouraged to register no later than Friday, April 29, 2022.
Officials said teams will set up Friday, May 6, 2022, and attend the cook’s meeting at 6 p.m. On the day of the event, there will be raffle prizes and all-you-can-eat plates will be $12 per person, with children 5 years and younger able to eat for free.
For more information, teams can contact Rick Rushin at 903-272-2192 or Sherry Yeatman at 903-249-0827.
