Danny Floyd Simmons was born to Floyd and Wilma Simmons on May 11th, 1948. He grew up in Gardena, California with his sister, Sondra, and then Gwen. The street he lived on was populated with many kids their age so there was never a lack of fun and mischief.  Danny was the star of 145th street when he and his dad built a life-size pinewood derby car, which had a lawnmower motor for power!

Dan graduated from Gardena High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the Army serving in Viet Nam. After the service, he married Sheri and bought a home in Lakewood, California. Son, Jeff, was born there. When he and Sheri parted ways in the 1980s, Dan relocated to what would become his permanent home on the land where his mother grew up at Maxey, Texas. There he fished, hunted and relished riding his Harley-Davidson. He worked as a plumber.

Dan’s family: pre-deceased by his parents, Floyd and Wilma and his younger sister Gwen Yarger. He is survived by his son, Jeff “JD” Simmons, of Aubrey, Texas; his grandson Cayden Simmons of Jupiter, Florida; sister, Sondra Wolin (husband Dennis) of Laguna Niguel, California; niece Jennifer Fitter of San Clemente, California; nephews Paul, David and John Yarger, of Arizona and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

Danny passed as he wished, at his cabin in Maxey, at around 2 am on March 1st, 2022, with cousins and good friends keeping vigil.

A memorial service for Dan will be on Friday, March 25th at 11 am (lunch to follow) at Maxey Baptist Church located at 602 County Road 34440 Sumner, TX 75486.
