Sex offender from Paris taken into custody

A convicted sex offender from Paris has been taken into custody thanks to a tip officials received.

Michael Deray Johnson, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was arrested recently in Sherman.

Working off tip information, DPS Special Agents and the Sherman Police Department located and arrested him at an apartment complex.

According to officials, Johnson’s criminal history includes a conviction for the Sexual Assault of a 15-year-old boy. He subsequently was sentenced to two years’ confinement. In 2014, Johnson was convicted of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements and sentenced to a year of confinement.

He had been wanted since October 11, 2018, after the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for his arrest for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements with Previous Conviction (X2). Additionally, on September 10, 2020, they issued warrants for his arrest for Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.

Johnson’s arrest was the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, so a reward will be paid.
