Mona Joyce Brooks was born at 7:25 AM on December 1, 1935, in Chico, Texas to Houston Jones Brooks and Magie Estel (Hunter) Brooks. Mona passed away in Paris, Texas at 11:00 PM on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the age of 86.
A memorial service has been set for Friday, March 4, 2022, at 12:30 PM at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Bryce Jester officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service time.
Strong in faith, Mona never had a doubt she would be reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.
Loving and living life to the fullest with her outgoing, never met a stranger, feisty and energetic personality. On-the-Go constantly, she loved to pick up and travel, visiting family and friends with her pot of coffee, bingo bag, fanny-pack, suitcase and crochet. She also enjoyed finding new bingo or casino destinations dreaming of winning that one million dollars she talked about sharing with her family.
She had a generous nature and would do anything for the people she cared for and if she didn’t have what they wanted in her possession she tried her best to obtain it for them. One of her most memorable lines, after someone told her to have a good day, was always returned with “you have a better one”!
Mona was gifted with many talents but will always be remembered for her passion for crocheting and leaving behind a long legacy of beautiful and colorful afghans, bedspreads, tablecloths, house shoes, doll clothes, and many other items all now to become treasured heirlooms.
She had many different occupations over the years and found joy and friends in each; machinist, driver for the railroad crews, printer and in-home healthcare.
Mona is survived by her children, Delores House (husband Jack House), Anna Kemp (husband Larry Kemp), Sandra Kuehm (husband Jeff Kuehm); grandchildren, Jason Willey (wife Carrie), Stewart Cannon (wife Holly), Nathan Hearn, Melissa Cannon, Ginifer Patterson (husband Sam) Charles Cookston, Michelle Hearn, Crystal Cookston (husband Leo), Dustin Hearn (Leslie), Christopher Willey-Montoya, Dale Willey-Montoya and Michael Willey-Montoya (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Blakeley, Morgan (Zac), Devyn, Leighton, Delyn, Deyana, Kayla, Tegan, Dylan, Brooklyn, Maddison, Skyler, Sebastian, Elizabeth, Jerrad, Breeanna, and Michael; great-great-grandchildren, Saylor, Sterling, Kameron, Dean, Emma, and Dallas; sister, Wanda Heurtevant; brothers, Jimmy Brooks (wife Sandy), Jerrell Brooks (wife Roxanne) and Pleasant Brooks (wife Sherry-deceased); many loved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Willey; great-grandchild, Cameron.
Mona cherished spending time with her family and friends above all else, and will be remembered and greatly missed by the family and friends she loved so much in life.
