Meet the Candidate || Robert Bridges

We sat down with Dr. Robert Bridges to talk about why he was running for the Red River County Judge seat after the announcement that Judge L.D. Williamson was retiring at the end of this term.
- Why are you running for this position?
The position is a vital part of local government, whereas the County Judge is the presiding officer of the Commissioner’s Court and represents the county in many administrative functions. The position also serves as the budget officer, has judicial duties such as presiding over misdemeanor criminal and civil cases, probate matters, appeals from the JP Court, and serves as the head of emergency management. Knowledge and experience in local government, business, and politics will be essential to perform these duties and provide the leadership necessary to cover the various responsibilities. Due to the complexity of the position, a background such as mine will play a pivotal role in the successful operation of the office and provide the ability to perform the necessary functions. Serving in this capacity is a way for me to help everyone improve the services provided for the people.
- What are your qualifications and background?
Including my tenure as Red River County Sheriff from 2008 through 2016, my experience entails holding:
- a Master Peace Officer license with 20+ years of service time and 6,500+ combined TCOLE training and education hours.
- Bachelor of Business Management, Master of Criminology
- Graduate of the Executive Protection Institute
- Emergency Medical Technician.
Since retiring as the Red River County Sherriff, I have since continued my professional development from corporate work experience as:
- The Director of Safety.
- Intermediate Corporate Board Member
- Bank Board of Directors
- Loan Committee Member
- Subsidiary Manager for a private firm
- Certified Safety and Health Official in General Industry
- Certified Safety and Health Official in Construction
- Graduated with a Doctorate of Business Administration.
Dr. Bridges finished our interview by saying “I am seeking the support of the people to allow me once again the opportunity to utilize my education, training, and experience to serve my county and home.”
