John Wayne Newberry, 68, of Hugo, OK, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, in Hugo. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2022, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

John was born on June 27, 1953, in Paris, Texas the son of Louie Wayne “Pug” and Gladys Lucille Beaver Newberry.  He had been employed with Merico, Kimberly Clark and had helped his dad with Two States Monuments. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church, had been past president of the Eagle Lodge, and loved drag racing.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina Newberry; grandchildren, Gary Newberry and Heather Pelt and a great-grandson, Reidan Allison. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Thomas Jordan.
