Fans of the late Betty White have started a movement to encourage everyone to donate to their local animal rescue on what would have been White’s 100th birthday.
“On Betty White’s 100th birthday, January 17th, everyone should pick a local rescue or animal shelter in your area and donate just $5 in Betty White’s name,” a post on the Facebook group Dogspotting Society explains. “Make her 100th birthday the movement she deserves.”
Another nonprofit animal society, Best Friends Animal Society, is also pushing the effort.
“Be it $5 or $100, we can all band together to make Betty White’s legacy live on through the thousands of homeless pets who need our help,” BFAS wrote on social media this week.
Fans of White are pushing this because of her lifelong commitment to animal welfare and conservation.
“I often say that I have to stay in show business to pay for my animal business,” White often said jokingly.
To participate, all you have to do is pick a local animal rescue group, or the American Humane Society, and make a donation in her name on Jan. 17.
In our area, we suggest donating to Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue.
“Donations can be made to Dr. Gatlins Love All Paws vet clinic, 6485 Lamar in Reno, or we have a PayPal button on our webpage Babygunns.org. Dr. Gatlin has offered to match every $5 donation made that day at her clinic and will put all towards our vet bill there,” the rescue shared on its social media page.
Rest in peace, Betty White.
