Hunt County Woman Arrested For Torturing And Killing A Cat

April 17, 2025

A woman has been arrested after reportedly killing a cat that wandered into her flower bed. Amy Hagman, 44 years old, was arrested April 12th at her home in unincorporated Hunt County just outside of the Hawk Cove city limits. According to SPCA of Texas Animal Cruelty investigators and Hunt County Deputies, the suspect allegedly smothered and strangled a cat after it entered her flower bed earlier in the day. The SPCA of Texas took possession of the deceased cat and transported the remains to the organization’s Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center in Dallas on Monday, April 14, 2025. A forensic necropsy was performed by an SPCA of Texas Forensic Veterinarian that day.

Hagman faces charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals – torture, and assault causing bodily injury. Her total bond is set at $12,000. She is currently at the Hunt County Detention Center.
Hunt County Sheriff’s Investigators believe Hagman smothered and strangled the cat after it entered her flower bed earlier that day. The deceased cat was taken by the SPCA of Texas to the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center in Dallas on Monday.
Investigators discovered that twine was wrapped around the cat’s neck, tied, and secured to a back leg. During a forensic examination, they found grass in the cat’s mouth and abrasions around its lips and muzzle, which, according to officials, indicate it had been both smothered and mechanically asphyxiated. It remains unclear how the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and the SPCA of Texas found out about the dead cat.
