Alva J. Walker is joining the Greenville ISD family as the new Executive Director of Special Education.

With an impressive educational background, Walker has a sincere passion for advocating as a catalyst for change and a voice for students, particularly those with disabilities. She brings a wealth of experience, having previously served in various capacities, including Middle School Special Educator, Director of Special Education for Dallas County Juvenile Justice, High School Inclusion Coach, Secondary Supervisor for Special Education, Elementary Assistant Principal and most recently, Executive Director of Special Education.

Walker is a native of Dallas. She is the proud wife of Michael J. Walker, Sr, and they have three beautiful children Michael Jr., Mackenzie and Mattisen.

Walker earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Jarvis Christian College (now Jarvis Christian University), majoring in History and Kinesiology. She further pursued her education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University. Walker’s commitment to learning is ongoing, as she is currently in the final stages of completing her doctoral degree in Special Education. Additionally, she completed the Region X Texas Superintendent Certification Program in the fall of 2019.

Walker is a lifelong learner and an advocate for all students. She embraces two inspiring quotes that guide her life. One is Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. The second quote, by Simon Sinek, “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.”

“Mrs. Walker’s gift for connecting with people and her focus on doing what’s best for all students is at the top of her priority list,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Shazzma Crooks. “Alva’s campus-based leadership experience coupled with her extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of Special Education will allow her to make an immediate impact within our district. It is our pleasure to add her to our team.”
