North Texas Crime Commission is offering a $5,000 reward leading to the arrest of Harris
Rowlett Police officers responded to a shooting call in the 2100 block of Lakeview Parkway (State Highway 66) in Rowlett. Rowlett Police officers arrived and found 22-year-old Rowlett resident Kerry Cottrell had been shot in the shopping center driveway. Rowlett Fire Rescue transported him by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Rowlett Police Criminal Investigations Division immediately began their investigation and determined this was not a random act of violence but rather both parties were engaged in a narcotics transaction. The murder suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Virgil Allen Harris of Mesquite.
Virgil Allen Harris is currently wanted for Murder, a felony in the 1st degree. Virgil Allen Harris is currently on bond for a 2021 Aggravated Robbery case out of Dallas County. Below is a picture of Virgil and the vehicle he was driving, an Orange 2021 Dodge Charger with Texas License Plate SRP 8905. Harris is also known by the alias name Derrick Deon Dozier.
