Kadee Farm will be hosting its third annual New Year Black-Eyed Pea Cook-Off at 11 a.m. on Sunday at 5054 U.S. 69 South in Greenville. Eating black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day is a long-practiced tradition in the south that is said to bring good fortune.

Participants are encouraged to bring a pot of their best batch of black-eyed peas to compete with a $25 entry fee. Winners will receive a cash payout and the first through third places will receive trophies.

If you just want to eat rather than compete, it is $5 to grab a sample of some of the food and vote. This is a great opportunity to spend time with the community while celebrating the new year.

If you want to submit a batch, please RSVP by calling 903-456-4492.
