During a special ceremony this weekend, nearly 200 veterans buried in Hunt County will be remembered and honored. The event is scheduled to start Saturday at 11 a.m. at Merit Cemetery located at 5261 FM 2194 in Celeste and is being held by Wreaths Across America.

A wreath laying and ceremony will be held. During this, wreaths will be laid while someone says the name of each veteran. Volunteers are needed for this.

Event attendees are encouraged to help honor veterans who didn’t have a wreath sponsored by bringing spare change. Each piece of change has its own meaning with a penny meaning someone visited, a nickel meaning the deceased and the visitor trained at basic together, a dime meaning the visitor and the deceased served together, and a quarter meaning the visitor and the deceased were together when they were killed.

175 of the 186 veterans buried had their wreaths sponsored as of Wednesday. You can find additional information here
