Learning to be responsible starts early in life, and at L.P. Waters, students are catching what Counselor Lori Starnes likes to call the “responsibility bug.”

Starnes, who is known for wearing a hat with Sprinkles the squirrel on top, began her lesson by reading “It’s Not Easy Being a Lazy Bug.” Next, students sorted through different scenarios, giving a thumbs up for responsible actions and a thumbs down for irresponsible actions. Colored hats and bug stickers topped off the lesson.

“I just love working with these 3- and 4-year-olds and helping them develop good habits that are an important part of foundational learning,” Starnes said. “Every month, we learn about a new character trait. Next month, we’ll talk about gratitude.”
