GISD Theatre students present a student-written show for the public || Spnsored by Quality Care ER
On the second day of school, GISD Theatrical Production students received their first assignment: write a series of vignettes based on the word UNITED.
“At first, they kept asking, what do I do with one word? And I said, ‘Use your imagination,'” Greenville High theatre teacher Sarah McKinney said.
The Mane Attraction Theatre Troupe is presenting the first annual Student Written Show.
“Our GISD theme this year is UNITED, and I thought that was powerful,” McKinney said. “The word has so many meanings. People coming together in different ways to work for a common purpose can take many forms. The best part was seeing the students working together to write and edit their vignettes.”
The vignettes include:
- The Game Show: Contestants compete for the most priceless prize of all: immortality.
- The Elevator Scene: Three very different people find themselves stuck on an elevator, and dramatic interactions ensue.
- The Knight’s Dilemma: A Robin Hood-like tale involving a knight who has to choose between helping the poor or maintaining his status.
One student scrambled the letters to come up with the word, “UNTIED,” and she wrote transition scenes with characters struggling to untie their shoes.
