Wednesday, Aug. 17 is the first day of school in GISD. They’re looking forward to greeting all their students and families.

Some quick reminders:

Clear backpacks: With safety at the top of all our minds, GISD is putting additional safety measures in place for the 2022-23 school year. All students must carry clear backpacks. They want to make this transition easy and affordable for our families. Several community businesses and individual donors have generously underwritten the purchase of clear backpacks, and there should be enough available for every GISD student who needs one. Please contact your campus if you need a clear backpack.

Please remember, the clear backpacks must not be decorated or have designs. Small logos of the backpack manufacturer are allowed, but large logos, monograms or any other visual design obstructions are not allowed. The clear parts of the backpack may be colored, but still must be transparent. The straps of the backpack may be colored and decorated.

Bus routes: Their drivers have been practicing their routes to provide the very best transportation services to our families. Thanks to all the families who have already signed up through online registration. You can see the most up-to-date routes and stops HERE. The routes have been designed based on students entered in the database. We will make adjustments as new students are added. Thank you for being patient as we work out our routes to maximize efficiency.
