During the 2021-22 school year, Greenville High School FFA students Daniel Pitts and Bentley Love built a truly unique table for the fire department.

The incoming seniors built the tabletop using floor joists from the old cotton gin, and the legs of the table are fire hydrants from Greenville.

The students and their advisor, GHS shop teacher Alex Xanthus, delivered the table on Friday, June 17, to its forever home at Station Three of the Greenville Fire Department.

Daniel’s favorite part about the project was getting the opportunity to build something so unique. Bentley hopes the firefighters will enjoy the table as much as he, Daniel and Mr. Xanthus enjoyed competing with it.

Daniel and Bentley competed at the State Fair of Texas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and the Hunt County Fair livestock shows. The pair won the Showmanship Award at the State Fair of Texas and the Hunt County Fair, among other honors.

They started the project in July of 2021, and the building and planning process took approximately four months.
